Personal Protection and Self Defense Products

Over the next few posts we will be dealing with personal protection and self defense products.  Let's face it, times are changing, people are changing, and our lifestyles are changing.  How many of us leave our car doors unlocked?  How many of us still leave a spare key under the door mat?  When was the last time you gave a ride to a stranger?  You have to admit, these days we are more careful than in days past.

Which brings me to the point... how do we get back that feeling of safety, confidence, and security?  For those of us who don't pack "heat", we pack other non-lethal personal protection products.  Most of us have heard of stun guns, pepper sprays, personal alarms, and popular self defense products.  The reason why most of us are familiar with these items, is because they have proven to be very effective and have stood the test of time.

The Stun Gun

The evolution of stun guns over the past few years has been remarkable.  These very powerful and effective electronic devices are not just attention getters.  They are engineered and designed to stop an attacker in their tracks.  They come in a variety of shapes sizes and colors.  Ranging from 80,000 volts, to over 4,000,000 volts; 3.5 inches to to over 7 inches tall.  I am not just talking about your typical stun gun... the variety of these devices will "shock" you.  There's the typical stun gun.  Then we have the stun baton.  Then there's the telescopic/expandable stun baton.  In addition there is the knuckle stun gun, the stun pen, cell phone stun gun, flashlight stungun, and lipstick stun gun.

Stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes. The stun gun does not rely on pain for results. The energy stored in the gun is dumped into the attacker’s muscles causing them to do a great deal of work rapidly. This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attacker’s blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. In short, he is unable to produce energy for his muscles, and his body is unable to function properly. The stun gun also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. When the attacker’s neuromuscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun he loses his balance. Should the attacker be touching you, the current will NOT pass to your body!

Stun guns have increased in popularity because of the durability and versatility.  Many of these units come with a lifetime warranty, have rechargeable batteries, and are built to last.  The most popular brands are Stun Master and Z-Force.  Prices start under $20.  Visit www.defenduplus.com to find out more information and to shop for these products.
